In the winter of 2020-2021, I set out to test my animation and illustration skills in a creative exercise that evolved into something much more ambitious: A concept for a contemporary, animated re-imagining of the classic 1927 film, 'Metropolis,' to commemorate its nearly 100-year anniversary.
The first working component of this project was to draft a short teaser, using digital illustrations that I created in the spirit of the original film. Adopting a pre-existing music score by the Swedish heavy metal collective Cult of Luna, I wove together modern animation and graphic design principles to bring an exciting and innovative concept to life.
